Charity of the Year

Alzheimer Society of Ireland - Wicklow

The Chambers Charity for the year is the Alzheimer Society of Ireland - Wicklow. The Alzheimer Society of Ireland works across the country in the heart of local communities providing dementia specific services and supports and advocating for the rights and needs of all people living with dementia and their carers.

Their aim for 2017 is to try to get the word out to all of Wicklow that the Service is available. ASI Wicklow Services provides a number of different Support and Care Services to people living with dementia, as well as to their families and Carers. They run two Day Centres in Wicklow - St. Clare's in Bray and Lily of the Valley in Rathdrum. The Day Centres offer the much needed opportunity to maintain the social aspect of day to day life, as withdrawal from family, friends and community is often a self-protective measure employed by people living with dementia, which can in fact exacerbate their condition. Attending a Day Centre is proven to help people preserve life skills vital to independence.

They will be making a presentation to our members in September outlining how Alzheimer patience and the impact to Businesses.
